Film meet-up in Paris

During the festival, Cannes is the absolute capital of the movie business. One of the reasons is the unparalleled networking. On Sept 4, a networking event will be held at Le Fumoir in Paris.

I'm a firm beleiver in networking, as nothing beats picking up info and tips from people in the business (and of course, don't forget to give out your own info and tips).

For details, click on MeetUp. If you ever organise post- or pre-Cannes events in your town, don't forget to drop us a note.

Toulon airport to Cannes

I occasionally get questions about reaching Cannes from Toulon airport. I'm not sure what the advantage is, as only about six cities are serviced: Paris, London, Rome, Brest, Brussels and Rotterdam. However, as it is a regional airport, you can get there later than other airports to check in.

Apart from that, you can reach Cannes from there using the same principles as other Riviera cities: the train. Toulon is on the main TGV line that includes Marseilles and Cannes, which means it can also be reached from Paris and Brussels (changing in Paris).

There is no direct train connection at the airport. But buses leave for the city every 20 minutes or so for a price of about €10 (summer 2008). Airlines flying there include Air France, AirOne, Ryanair, Transavia and Jetairfly. Alternatively, it's about an hour's drive to Cannes along the main A57 motorway.

For more information, visit the Toulon airport website in French.

Hamish Taylor to address the TFWA in October

Hamish Taylor, known for his work with British Airways and Sainsbury's Bank and in turning around Eurostar, will address the plenary session of the Tax Free World Association in October. Under the title 'The Fourth Dimension', Taylor will assess how brands, retailers and landlords can redefine their brand proposition by analysing the performance of leaders in other sectors and analysing their product from a consumer's perspective. His subject links into the overall theme of the Conference. 'Challenge the Future'. Taylor is currently CEO of the Vision UK consultancy.
